JUNE 23RD IS NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN LUXEMBOURG

On Sunday, June 23rd 2024, O-METALL celebrates Luxembourg’s National Day. The Grand Duke’s birthday, officially known as “Groussherzogsgebuertsdag”, is celebrated on this day.

Celebrating the ruler’s birthday has been a tradition in Luxembourg since the 18th century. The 23rd can be traced back to the birthday of Grand Duchess Charlotte. As her birthday was on January 23rd, the celebrations were postponed to June 23rd for climatic reasons. Since then, the date of the holiday has been retained, even if the birthday of the reigning Grand Duke or Grand Duchess falls on a different day.
